Chimney Relining
Chimney Lining and Relining-
The lining in your chimney is typically made of terra cotta. The same substance that flower pots are made of. This clay liner is the thermal protection between your home and the chimney itself. Age, weather and chimney fires may damage these clay liners rendering your chimney useless. The only way to fix the problem is either tearing it down and rebuilding which could cost thousands of dollars or having it relined with stainless steel.
The stainless steel liner comes in a seamless design. It is corrugated stainless typically in a 304 or 316 alloy. Both alloys are UL Listed and approved for the use in wood burning systems. They are truly the state of the art in the new generation of chimneys. This corrugated design allows for expansion and contraction of the liner. Which helps reduce the amount of creosote build up with in the liner. Depending on the situation of the chimney and its construction. If the old liners are damaged they must be removed. A special tool designed just for our trade is sent down the flue liner. The old liner is removed making room for your new stainless liner.
The new liner is sleeved down the interior of the chimney structure and connected to either your fireplace or wood burning stove. The Stainless steel liner will go from the wood burning appliance all the way to the top of the chimney. Without any seems it eliminates the chances of the fire and the products of combustions from escaping the liner.
The new liner will be wrapped in either a fireproof insulation or a insulation mix that will be poured around the void between the liner and the chimney. Each type of insulation is UL approved and makes for an optimal installation.
